Pay increases for UK university graduates have been affected by inflation, according to the Student Employers Institute's (ISE) annual Student Recruitment Survey. The median annual salary for graduates this year was £30,921, up 1.4 per cent from £305 million last year.

But with inflation at 8.6%, graduate wages are actually 7.3% less than last year!

In addition, most employers are hiring less in the coming years due to the threat of a recession in the UK economy. Graduate vacancies will only increase by 2% next year, compared with 17% (21-22) and 9% (20-21) in the previous two academic years.

The good news, though, is that less than half of UK employers currently require applicants to have a 2:1 degree, and only 13% set a minimum UCAS score. In other words, the proportion of grades in recruitment is relatively lower, and the company pays more attention to more diverse criteria.

Just like PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), which recently removed the “at least a 2:1 degree” requirement for undergraduate and postgraduate job postings to attract job seekers from a wider range of backgrounds.
